What Is Reiki?
Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese healing technique that has gained worldwide popularity. Rei means "universal", and ki means "life force energy"; Reiki is a spiritually-guided life force energy. Every living thing has life force energy running through it.
During a Reiki session, a Certified Reiki Practitioner connects with and directs that life force energy to the client, opening blockages and rebuilding energy. Reiki can enhance all aspects of life, including, but not limited to, relationships with:
- self
- other people
- nature
- God
In order to work, Reiki requires the receiver to actively accept healing. Reiki cannot force anything on or do anything to the client unless he or she is open to receiving the Reiki's healing energy.
Reiki is a loving, guided energy,
and can do no harm.
What makes Reiki unique is that it includes elements from many alternative healing practices, such as spiritual healing, aura and chakra cleansing, and meditation; can incorporate practices such as aromatherapy, naturopathy, and homeopathy; and can include the use of crystals, oils, and sound healing, as well as other healing touch modalities.
Reiki's essential properties include its ability to:
- bring deep relaxation
- immediately reduce stress
- produce a general feeling of well-being
- work with the body's natural ability to detoxify and heal itself for the client's best and highest good.
Reiki enhances the body's natural ability to heal on a mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical level. As the Western medical profession knows, this multi-level healing is especially important because many physical ailments are caused by stress, anxiety, and exhaustion. Eastern medicine teaches that many ailments are caused by energy blockages and lack of energy circulation.
Reiki is used to cleanse and balance the energies of the mind, body, and spirit, and can clear blockages in the Aura, Chakras (energy centers), and Meridians (energy channels). While some chakras, meridians, and joints can benefit from direct touch, Reiki does not require touch in order to work.
Just like our physical body, our emotional and spirit bodies can become tired, congested, and even sick. Our mind, body, and spirit need loving care to flourish.
There are many kinds of healing energy. Reiki is a special healing energy that can only be channeled by someone who has been attuned to it by a Reiki Master. It flows through them under guidance from a Higher Power, and you do not have to believe in that Higher Power in order to benefit from Reiki. You merely need to be open to the process.
Reiki can be used to assist in:
- the healing of emotional trauma,
- goal setting
- creating new habits
- healthy weight loss
- sleep disturbances
- anxiety reduction
- fighting addictions
Reiki also can assist a client inflicted with various auto-immune diseases, diabetes, chronic illness, and chronic pain.
It can improve physical energy, mental clarity, emotional stability, and spiritual connectedness.
Reiki’s benefits can be maximized when performed in conjunction with chiropractic or physical therapy care, acupuncture treatments, and other forms of holistic treatments.
There seems to be no limit to Reiki's healing ability if the client is open to change and is willing to let go of old patterns that no longer serve him.
Important Note:
Although Reiki works well as a complementary treatment, it is not a substitute for medical treatment or properly prescribed medications. If you are ill or concerned about symptoms you are experiencing, please contact your doctor immediately. Never discontinue medication without first consulting your doctor.
Who Can Benefit from Reiki?
We have all felt “stuck” from time to time. Whether feeling overwhelmed with financial stress, an exhausting life style, an unfulfilling social or spiritual connection, or just feeling the need for change and not knowing where to begin, Reiki Healing helps open blockages, creating a true clarity that can benefit anyone.

Reiki for Healthcare Professionals
Now more than ever, healthcare professionals need support and protection. Caring for patients all day, every day, can be exhausting and draining. People working in the heath care profession often forget to take care of themselves. Without replenishing our energy, we will have little to give others and often risk “burning out”.

Reiki During Pregnancy
Pregnancy can be such a wonderful time for any woman. It should be a time when a woman focuses on her body and her growing baby’s needs. It can also be a time where fatigue, morning sickness, daily stress, and work and parenting demands push you beyond your limit. Nature provides everything your baby needs to grow by taking from you, however, nature cannot completely protect your baby from feeling some of the effects of your stress and anxiety.
Taking care of your needs while pregnant is important. Whether you take relaxing walks, get a massage, rest to peaceful music or treat yourself to Reiki Healing, the most important thing is to take extra special care of yourself during pregnancy.
Reiki is completely safe for both mother and baby.
